Following the huge success of Sony Ericsson’s T68 mobile phone, which has a color screen, Nokia is planning to launch its own color handset. The company is expected to announce a color version of its 8310 model during Q1 this year.
According to telecoms analysts cited by Reuters, the popularity of its rival’s handset has taken Nokia by surprise. As a result, the Finnish company is likely to announce the new device at its quarterly results presentation on January 24, at the Cannes telecoms conference in February, or at the CeBIT technology show in March.
Since one of the major drivers behind Nokia’s domination of the mobile handsets market has been its ability to produce the phones that consumers want, the T68’s success will have come as a shock to the company. It will now be hoping that consumers are prepared to wait for its color phone to come out.
