Japanese mobile giant NTT DoCoMo has signed a 10-year agreement with E-Plus Mobifunk, the German mobile operator. Under the agreement, NTT will transfer and license its Internet technologies to E-plus for the launch of its mobile Internet service.
E-Plus’s Internet service is to be launched between March and April 2002. It will be similar to NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode service, which provides e-mail and Internet access. The service will operate on the GPRS network and on the 3G network when services begin.
NTT DoCoMo will provide E-Plus with the patents, know-how and technologies it will need to offer the service. In return, NTT DoCoMo will receive licensing fees until the end of the agreement on January 1, 2012.
