Japanese wireless service provider, NTT DoCoMo, has announced that it will launch its infogate portal site on March 1 2002. The portal site will provide personal digital assistant (PDA) device users with a variety of content and applications. The company expects the new service to capitalize on the growing popularity of PDA services.
Infogate will allow users to access general information, including news, weather, banking, and online applications such as groupware. It can also be used to customize online applications. The Infogate services will cost subscribers a basic monthly fee and charges for both connection and information usage.
The service follows the launch of DoCoMo’s 3G FOMA mobile service, which provides high-speed data transmission in packet and circuit-switched modes.
