Posts operating income of $154.9m
Nvidia reported revenue of $962m for the first quarter of fiscal 2012, a decline of 4% compared to $1bn in the same period a year earlier.
The company posted a gross profit of $484.5m, compared to $456.4m for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $154.9m, compared to $147.4m for the first quarter of fiscal 2011.
For the quarter ended 1 May 2011, the company’s net income increased to $135.2m, or $0.22 per diluted share, compared to net income of $137.6m, or $0.23 per diluted share for the same period last year.
Nvidia president and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said their core GPU businesses are solid and this quarter, their Tegra mobile business took off.
"With the Tegra super chip and the Icera wireless communication processor, we will offer our customers the two most important processors of the mobile computing revolution. We look forward to completing the Icera acquisition shortly," Huang said.
The company expects revenue for the second quarter of fiscal 2012 to increase by 4-6% from the first quarter FY12, while gross margin is expected to increase to 50.5-51.5%.
