The new release helps customers to virtualise and manage their full hardware and software stack from applications to disk
Oracle has released its Secure Global Desktop 4.7, an access application which provides secure, browser-based access to applications hosted in the data centre, from different client devices.
The new application provides access to centralised, server-hosted Windows, UNIX, mainframe, and midrange applications through devices, including Windows PCs, Mac OS X systems, Oracle Solaris workstations, Linux PCs, thin clients.
The new release supports multi-monitor configurations, improved graphics and audio, supports faster deployment through Oracle VM Templates, delivers enhanced security and expands the list of supported server operating system and Internet browser versions.
Release 4.7 is claimed to minimise the risk, time and cost of delivering applications to the enterprise, by supporting vast server-based applications, including Web-based platforms from Oracle and other vendors, and standard Windows, Linux, UNIX and legacy applications.
Access to full-screen desktop environments allows IT administrators to use a single application to provide access to both server-based applications and server-hosted desktop environments such as Microsoft Remote Desktop Services.
The Secure Global Desktop is a part of Oracle Virtualization, the desktop-to-data centre virtualisation portfolio, enabling customers to virtualise and manage their full hardware and software stack from applications to disk.
Oracle Secure Global Desktop 4.7 will allow users to run multiple applications on different physical monitors at the same time, supports microphones and other audio input devices, supports improved performance for 3-D applications utilizing OpenGL 1.3 graphics extensions.
It also includes support for the new Internet browsers and server OS platforms and provides optimal security through pre-configured security settings.
Oracle Secure Global Desktop can run on Exalogic Elastic Cloud to provide secure remote access directly to Oracle Applications co-resident in Exalogic, delivering enhanced user experience.
Oracle Linux and Virtualization Development senior vice president Wim Coekaerts said: "Oracle Secure Global Desktop is an easy to deploy and use solution that enables users to access Windows, Linux, UNIX, and legacy applications in a way that provides a rich user experience and high security while reducing complexity for both IT and the user."
