The UK division of France Telecom’s mobile unit, Orange, has seen its customer base grow by 415,000 users in the six months to the end of June. Its now has 12.8 million customers, a rise of 941,000 from the figure for the end of June 2001.
A larger proportion of Orange’s customers are also now on contract: 31% of its users are on contract compared to 28.6% a year earlier. The annual average revenue from contract users increased from GBP548 in March to GBP555 in June, while the pre-pay average increased by GBP1 to GBP122.
Revenues from text messages and data services increased by 4.3% compared to 2001 to account for 13.9% of GSM network revenues. The operator also maintains that it is on track with its plans to launch 3G services.
