France Telecom’s mobile unit, Orange, has reported a 16% rise in Q1 sales. The performance is a result of a jump in its global customer base to 40.5 million customers. Revenues increased to E3.96 billion.
Average revenue per subscriber has stabilized. This is seen as vital for future growth as mobile markets become saturated and subscriber growth levels. Revenues per customer have been declining as competition forces the operators to offer cheaper services.
The company’s UK market share stands at 40% and it now has a 28.4% cumulative market share. Orange increased its lead in the French market, as its market share rose to 49% from 48.2% at the end of last year.
