Procter & Gamble, a leading US consumer products group, has withdrawn its adverts being aired on Don Imus’ show, after the host made offensive comments about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team.
Mr Imus said on his show, broadcast on MSNBC cable television, that the players were nappy-headed hos. He later apologized for the comment, although P&G still decided to pull adverts for its brands from MSNBC daytime television. The consumer products company said the withdrawal of its adverts is indefinite.
A number of other companies have also pulled their adverts from the show, including office retailer Staples.
Mr Iums, who is no stranger to controversy, has agreed to meet the female players and will begin a two week suspension on Monday April 16.
