The frustration of getting caught out with a dead mobile battery could soon be a thing of the past: Nearplay Systems is piloting recharging booths called “Charge Me” across London.
Mobile phone users can plug in their phones at one of the kiosks to recharge their phones. At a cost of 50 pence, users can charge their phones for five minutes and is expected to provide them approximately 20 to 25 minutes of talk time. 10 minutes of charging, at a cost of GBP1, should provide around 45 minutes of talk time.
The circular shaped, free-standing kiosks are being trialled in public locations such as train stations and airports around London. The kiosks can charge up to twelve phones at a time and are compatible with Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Siemens, and Samsung phones, as well as Palm handheld computers.
