RealNetworks has released a universal version of its RealOne media player. The company claims the product offers playback of every major digital media format, including, RealVideo, MP3, Windows Media and QuickTime, and over 50 other formats. The universal feature will only be available to paid customers.
The universal RealOne Player completes RealNetworks’ universal product line. Last month, RealNetworks introduced the Helix Universal Server, which streams all major media types. RealNetworks is hoping to encourage content providers to webcast in a single format that accommodates most computer users.
Real has also announced it is to launch a radio subscription service which will provide access to thousands of Internet radio stations for a monthly fee.
