Sawtek, a subsidiary of TriQuint Semiconductor, has developed a new RF filter family for GSM networks. The new two-in-one filters incorporate cellular and RF SAW filters in a single package, which abolishes the expensive package cost for the second filter.
The new filter is able to reduce the total area for dual band RF filters from 10 square millimeters to 7.5 square millimeters. The smaller size makes it an ideal component for module applications, while retaining the high performance of Sawtek’s standard RF filters.
It combines two filters that provide unbalanced to balanced operation or balanced to unbalanced operation in a smaller package. The solution also reduces the number of components, size and cost when compared to discrete balanced solutions that use two separate Saw filters, baluns and a matching network.
