Siemens and Nokia are to cooperate in the development of an open standard for mobile handset software developers. Nokia and Siemens will begin by combining their efforts on mobile terminal software applications by forming common tools and creating new opportunities for developers.
Siemens’ Series 60 software platform will be licensed to Nokia and they will jointly develop it. Siemens already made a licensing agreement for this product with Motorola in April; Motorola’s reaction to the announced is yet to be seen.
In addition, the companies have agreed to support and contribute to the creation of key open standards and technologies. They also intend to identify new areas where open standards can be implemented and promoted.
