Siemens has announced it is in talks with potential partners to develop new mobile devices. Peter Zapf, Siemens’ president, has not yet expressed what the details of the partnership would be, nor the structure of the agreement.
Siemens is currently the third biggest handset maker in terms of sales; it controls around 7.5% of the worldwide handset market. An agreement should enable the company to consolidate its position within the industry.
Siemens believes that its future lies in providing personalized products on an open platform. It is currently developing a ‘pendant phone’ to be worn around the neck, which combines a phone, camera and MP3 player in one package.
