Siemens is to use a Motorola core application kit to develop 3G handsets. The mobile manufacturer has also announced that it will sell Motorola handsets branded as Siemens until it can offer its own handsets.
Under the agreement, Motorola will provide its i.300 platform with the DragonBall MX microprocessor series, which enables processing and multimedia capabilities. The first i.300 based UMTS terminates will be available in early 2004.
Until the terminals are available, Motorola will provide Siemens with its own 3G handsets, which will be customized and carry the Siemens brand name. In 2002, Siemens intends to launch its first device based on Motorola’s A820 technology, from which the i.300 platform is being developed.
