Sony Ericsson is using unusual marketing techniques to sell its T68i phone. The company is employing people to pose at tourists around New York. It may seem strange at first but these ‘tourists’ are using the T68i phone with camera accessory to take pictures near tourist attractions.
They approach innocent bystanders and ask them if they wouldn’t mind taking a photo for them. This type of marketing leads to increased brand exposure and first hand contact with the product the company is trying to sell.
This type of promotion is mainly used by the drinks industry, which employs people to order newly launched drinks from the bar and generally promote drinking the product. Sony Ericsson cottoned onto this tactic and is spending $5 million on this 60-day marketing campaign.
