Vodafone has kicked 3G to the curb for a while, to focus on what it has deemed to be its new killer app – ‘sha-mail’. This photo messaging system was developed by J-Phone, Vodafone’s Japanese arm.
The service will be available for those with camera-enabled phones. This means that users will be able to take photographs and send them to friends instantly.
The company is hoping that customers are more likely to be temped by new and exciting applications available to them now, rather than future projects such as 3G. Vodafone now expects to roll out 3G devices sometime in 2004.
