Surpassed Super Bowl XLVI, an American football game
Social media sharing activity during the 2012 London Olympic opening ceremonies became the biggest sharing activity on record for a sports or entertainment event, with an estimated 4.95 million shares, according to data from AddThis.
The social activity is 106% more than during Super Bowl XLVI, an American football game between the National Football Conference (NFC) champion New York Giants and the American Football Conference (AFC) champion New England Patriots, the social sharing platform said.
AddThis’ sharing platform is found next to most online content and enables users to post or link back through all of the most popular social media sites.
The company manages the high volume of Web traffic and data by using 1,000 servers powered by AMD Opteron processors.
