Sony Ericsson has licensed Sun Microsystems’ Java 2 Micro Edition. The joint venture company will use J2ME predominantly to build games and multimedia applications for its mobile handsets.
J2ME is used in the three new handsets that Sony Ericsson launched on Tuesday – the first models to be launched under the Sony Ericsson name. They are expected to be available later in the year.
Sony Ericsson also plans to launch a software development kit later this month, allowing developers to write Java games and applications for its GSM handsets.
