Sony President Kunitake Ando said that there is no change in the commitment to the Sony Ericsson mobile handset business by either party. Sweden’s Ericsson had threatened the future of the unit, which is a 50-50 joint venture between Japanese electronics giant Sony and Sweden’s Ericsson.
Ericsson is struggling with continuous losses, and has warned that it may stop further investment unless the performance of the joint ventures improves in the next nine months. Sony Ericsson made a net loss of E83 million in the three months ending June.
