US-based RAE Systems, a provider of rapidly deployable sensor networks, has announced that the state of South Carolina has purchased 300 GammaRAE II handheld radiation detectors and additional wirelessly enabled MultiRAE Plus handheld toxic gas monitors for deployment to first responders.
The GammaRAE II provides rapid detection of gamma-ray sources even in potentially flammable environments. It has forward compatibility for use with the AreaRAE wireless network already deployed within the state.
The MultiRAE Plus is a compact one-to-five gas monitor that typically combines a photo-ionization detector with Oxygen, lower explosive limit, and a choice of two toxic gas sensors. The case design makes battery and sensor replacement easy by simply using a coin.
