Sun Microsystems has announced it is to bundle its Sun One Java application server software with its Solaris 9 operating system. It remains to be seen how this will affect competition within the $2 billion a year application server market.
The move is likely to trouble some of the established competitors in the application server market such as BEA Systems and IBM. Analysts believe that the sales of BEA Systems are likely to be hardest hit as BEA sells the majority of its application server software on Sun’s Solaris operating system.
Sun has also revealed it is to about to launch the latest version of its Unix operating system.
