Synthasite, which offers a free web 2.0 publishing platform, has raised $5m in series A funding funding to accelerate growth and relocate some activities of the Cape Town, South Africa-based company to California in order to be closer to the key players in the web 2.0 space.
The company said it enables users to construct a web site without any knowledge of HTML or programming, using drag and drop along with configurable dialog windows. It said it has nearly 10,000 users for a Beta version of its AJAX-based platform.
Synthasite also plans to open its platform to third-party developers next year to allow them to create widgets, templates, and other plug-ins for the platform.
The funding came from Columbus Venture Capital.
