One2One, the UK mobile operator owned by Deutsche Telekom and soon to be rebranded as T-Mobile, has launched reverse billing services, which allow customers to pay for content and services by sending an SMS message to a premium rate number.
Although reverse SMS is widely seen as an excellent way of charging for low-value content and services, it has taken One2One some time to implement it. The launch comes four months later than originally expected.
On top of the delay, One2One has chosen a different system from the other three major UK operators. They have synchronized their codes so that content providers can give out a single four-digit number that will work on all their networks. But One2One’s service requires a separate 11-digit number.
