Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer has announced its plans to launch mobile phone by the second half of 2008. The company has licensed its name to customized design manufacturer Modelabs for a series of luxury mobile phones.
According to Reuters, Christophe Babin, chief executive at Tag Heuer said: The success of this line, already a market leader in luxury eyewear, confirmed for us the potential of Tag Heuer as a brand for contemporary, technological, timeless productssuch as luxury mobile phones.
Modelabs will collaborate with Tag Heuer for the design, production and marketing of mobile phones under the Tag Heuer brand. Recently, Modelabs launched the Levis mobile phone in Hong Kong.
The foray into the mobile phone market by Tag Heur follows the trend of luxury brands such as Prada, Armani, D&G, and Levis. Prada collaborated with LG Electronics, D&G with Motorola while Armani recently launched its luxury mobile in collaboration with Samsung Electronics.
