Background noise could be a thing of the past for Australians using Telstra Mobile’s GSM network. The operator has installed equipment that enhances the quality of voices, and cuts out the majority of unwanted background noise. The US-developed technology will be unique to Telstra in Australia.
Telstra tested the equipment over a period of four months and found it to be highly successful. The technology can reduce up to 10 decibels, or 65% of background noise.
Not only that, it can also amplify or dampen the volume of the speaker to allow for a comfortable conversation without having to either hold the handset away from the ear in agony or strain to hear voices.
Better still for Telstra subscribers, they will not have to pay anything to use this service. A free feature as useful as this could prompt users to defect from other service providers.
