Tesco blasted for banking outage

Beleaguered retailer Tesco faced another setback when its online banking arm was hit by a computer fault.

Around one in twenty customers, or 300,000 people, were unable to access their accounts during the outage, which lasted from Tuesday until today.

Tesco Bank told customers requiring the service urgently to use the telephone banking service, which operated as normal during the problems.

Angry customers tweeted about their dissatisfaction with the service. Tesco itself addressed the complaints on Twitter once the service had been restored:

"Customers can now see their accounts online as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience."

The supermarket made headlines earlier this week after former CEO Philip Clark was given a £1.22 million payoff, despite the accounting scandal during his tenure that has rocked Tesco to its core.

New CEO Dave Lewis is currently pushing through a cost-cutting drive which includes selling off assets and closing stores.
