Thomson Healthcare, a provider of healthcare decision support systems designed to improve clinical and business performance outcomes, has launched a drug dosing system called NeoFax.
According to a recent study by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, medication errors injure more than 1.5 million people each year. Neonatal drug dosing and parenteral nutrition ordering are among the most complex and error-prone in hospital care.
The NeoFax system provides an infant drug and fluid nutrient dosing resource that contains alerts, an interaction checker and a patient-specific dosing calculator. The device contains more than 185 substances, as well as a set of clinical decision support modules for patient specific dosing and parenteral nutrition order entry for neonates.
NeoFax is available in print, PDA and as a web-based application for use in hospital neonatal intensive care units.
