Companies may not comply; law unenforceable in US
US billionaire Louis Bacon has reportedly won a UK court order telling publishers who run Wikimedia foundation, the Denver Post newspaper, and the blogging platform WordPress, to divulge details of commentators who have allegedly defamed Bacon.
Bacon is the founder and chief executive officer of Moore Capital Management, a New York City-based hedge fund with offices in London and Washington, D.C. Bacon has alleged that several commentators had posted libellous material against him on the websites, under usernames such as "gotbacon" and "Tcasey82".
The Guardian reported that the high court in London gave the permission to Bacon, but it may be difficult to obtain details from the companies which are based in the US. The UK court order is unenforceable in the US and the companies could legally refuse to hand over the details asked by the court.
