The UK’s Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling that allows local planning authorities to consider health issues when deciding whether to allow the installation of mobile towers. At the moment, the authorities cannot allow health fears to influence their decisions.
Lord Justice Schiemann made the ruling at the Court of Appeal. The decision could add to the pressure mobile networks face to prove that the towers are not harmful to health.
The ruling will be welcomed by pressure groups that claim the towers are unsafe, but it could hinder the expansion and roll-out of mobile networks.
