Sybase Inc [SY] will unveil its Unwired Enterprise initiative’s vision of its future
Unwired Enterprise is intended to highlight Sybase’s strength in enabling enterprise applications for use with wireless networks and mobile devices.
But it is more than a marketing campaign centered on the re-packaging of products from Sybase and its iAnywhere mobile middleware division.
Unwired Planet will be supported by a number of updated products plus tighter integration between existing mobile-enabled products in Sybase’s catalog.
Foremost among the product updates is a real-time publish-and-subscribe version of its SQL Anywhere product, enabled by an embedded Java Messaging System (JMS). The upgrade, technically version 12.5.2, is being primed for release in the first quarter of 2004.
Sybase will follow this up late in the first quarter or early in the second with two new product bundles: Unwired Server and Unwired Toolkit.
Sybase believes it is in a strong position to capitalize on its rivals’ failure to meet the end-to-end requirements of the mobile enterprise.
