Virgin mobile’s UK business has added 171,367 new subscribers during Q2. The company now has nearly 1.8 million customers. Virgin Mobile has seen year-on-year growth of 19.2%, partly due to scraping its original strategy of only selling through its own retail channels.
Virgin Mobile also became profitable during Q2, and the company expects to have over 2 million customers by the end of 2002, with an EBITDA of almost $11 million. It also believes that the launch of mobiles with color screens will drive customers to upgrade their handset.
However, its Asia division is pulling out of Singapore, where it has found the market environment difficult. Instead it will concentrate on the Australian market where it has been more successful.
