Vodafone New Zealand has implemented Logica’s Prepaid Service Agent (PSA). The SMS prepay billing solution means that Vodafone will not risk losing revenue from its prepaid customers sending text messages without having the credit in their account.
With PSA the account is charged in advance of a message being sent, whereas traditional ‘hot billing’ solutions charge the users account after the message has been sent. The PSA removes the possibility of users sending messages without having the credit, and therefore protects Vodafone’s revenues.
This form of fraud protection for prepaid voice services has been available for a while, but it can now be used on non-voice services too.
