Vodafone and Research In Motion have launched the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone with integrated GPS for customers in the UK. The phone includes enhanced communications and multimedia capabilities including the new version of Vodafone’s Sat Nav application.
Vodafone said that the handset combined with Vodafone Sat Nav, which is supported by Telmap, will offer live traffic alerts, in addition to points-of-interest such as restaurants, malls, theaters, and public utility services. Updated maps and directions are also available.
It said a lifestyle tool enables users to make calls, check and send emails, surf the net, take and send photographs, listen to music, watch and record videos, and schedule and manage their work. The SureType keyboard system on the handset offers word completion, editing of misspelled words, and a built-in spell-checker.
Kyle Whitehill, director of the enterprise business unit, Vodafone UK, said: The BlackBerry 8110 offers all the same features of the original BlackBerry Pearl 8100 but with some software and hardware enhancements, including a 2 megapixel camera and built-in GPS.
Vodafone said a 12-month subscription to Vodafone Sat Nav is being offered to Vodafone customers using BlackBerry internet service in store, online, or through Vodafone telesales.
