Vodafone has chosen the Spanish telecoms infrastructure group, Tecnocom, to provide GSM coverage in Madrid’s underground train network. The contract, for seven years, will provide cellular services throughout the underground system.
The total cost of the infrastructure is $42 million. It will be installed by Metrocall, 60% of which is owned by Tecnocom and 40% owned by Metro de Madrid, the railway company.
It is expected that the first phase, providing coverage on Madrid’s busiest train lines, will be completed next year.
