Vodafone has revealed plans to sell off the fixed-line assets of its Japan Telecom subsidiary. The UK based mobile operator 69.7% of Japan Telecom and wants to sell its non-mobile operations to focus purely on mobile telephony in the region.
Vodafone hopes the sale will raise the capital required to increase its interest in Japan Telecom’s mobile unit, J-Phone, and be the catalyst for the company to capture market share from NTT DoCoMo. J-Phone currently has a 17% share of the Japanese mobile telephony market.
