Worldpay, the Internet payment system, is under hack attack affecting thousands of online retailers around the world.
The company, owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group [RBS.L], is experiencing ‘denial-of-service’ attack, caused by its payment and administration networks being flooded with computer-generated requests which clog the system up which results in the speed of transactions being slowed dramatically.
Worldpay has 27,000 clients worldwide, operates in more than 70 countries and has customers ranging from Vodafone [VOD] and Sony Music Entertainment [SNE] to numerous small online retailers.
It operates and accepts payments on credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, Diners and American Express [AXP].
It has upgraded its security measures and claims payment and administration systems have not been compromised.
