Worldwide broadband access offerings and services
ZTE, a provider of telecommunications equipment and network offerings, has signed a partnership agreement with ChinaTel, a US-based provider of engineering, deployment, and operations services related to the development of wireless broadband telecommunications networks.
Under the agreement, ZTE will provide China Tel with the process of broadband access offerings and services worldwide.
ZTE and Perusat, a subsidiary of ChinaTel in Peru, have deployed a nationwide WiMAX (LTE-Ready) network in Peru.
Phase one encompasses the eight populated cities of Peru except Lima and further expansion will cover the rest cities in Peru, including Lima and Callao.
ChinaTel has chosen to upgrade the first base station equipment ZTE is manufacturing for Perusat to take leverage on ZTE’s wireless broadband technology, 4T8R beam forming.
ChinaTel CEO George Alvarez said ZTE’s advanced technology provides them the flexibility to decide in each city whether to place their first base stations farther apart and increase the footprint of geographic coverage, or to maintain the original array and serve more initial subscribers before reaching the capacity of this equipment.
"Both options reduce and defer our average capital expense per subscriber, and improve our return on investment," Alvarez said.
