The tool allows users to extract the significance from a large, detailed data set, providing the ability to summarise and explore data interactively.

Essentially a Pivot table is a data summarisation tool that is found in data visualisation programs such as spreadsheets or business intelligence software, so while it is most commonly known in the Excel program it is also available elsewhere.
