What is a port?

In computing, ports are endpoints of connection which provide input and output interfaces.

Ports have lots of different uses. They can be either physical or virtual.

Physical ports, which include Ethernet, USB and serial ports, allow connection to different types of devices.

These kinds of ports are used by most people in day-to-day use of computers.
