What is binary?

The stand first above is a demonstration of ‘what is binary’ looks like in binary. Binary is the basic language for computers.

The system is based on two numbers, 0 and 1. This is often referred to as Off or On.

Even though it is used in technology today, the binary system was created way before computers were even invented.

German philosopher, polymath and mathematician Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz is the man who in 1703 first documented the 0 and 1 based system.

He wrote the Explication de l’Arithmétique Binaire which become the foundation for today’s computer architectures.
