What is calibrating?

Basically, the process of calibrating allows for the setting or correcting of a measuring device, it can also be used to set a base level.

One example of this can be seen with video displays and setting the brightness or black level.

The settings for this can be calibrated using a PLUGE pattern, picture line-up generation equipment pattern. This is a test pattern that’s used to calibrate the black level on a video display.
