The program allows customers to construct and edit vector graph images, which are used when creating two-dimensional images, such as posters.

The software program was first released in January 1989 for Windows 2.1. The company which created it, Corel, was founded in 1985.

The software was developed by Michael Bouillon and Pat Beirne and is written in C++ and C#.

The most updated version of the program is the X8 from March 2016, which is available on Windows 7, 8 and 10 as well as Windows Vista and Windows XP.
