What is hypertext?


Coined by Ted Nelson in 1965, hypertext is text which is not constrained to be linear, according to the World Wide Web Consortium.

Essentially, hypertext is text that contains links to other texts.

Hypertext is widely used online to drive traffic and users to follow-up pages.

It is a tactic most visible on news wires and online encyclopaedias.
