what is IBM Notes

Lotus Notes is enterprise email software by IBM. The software has been rebranded and is now sold as IBM Notes.

IBM Notes, formerly Lotus Notes, is one half of a collaborative client-server software platform sold by IBM.

While Lotus Notes is the client part of the software platform, Lotus Domino is the server. However, Lotus Domino has also been rebranded and is now known as IBM Domino.

IBM Notes is essentially a desktop workflow application providing instant messaging, email, calendars, blogs, personnel directory and forums to organisations.

The tools provided by IBM Notes and Domino look to enhance and simplify workplace collaboration, although IBM Notes does provide applications that can also be used to enforce security, access and store information, and allow data replication.
