PoC stands for proof of concept, this is a way of demonstrating the potential of concepts or theories for real world application.

Basically, a proof of concept is a way of prototyping an idea in order to ascertain its feasibility for a larger scale deployment.

Proof of concepts can be done over differing lengths of time depending on how mission critical the deployment would be to the organisation.
