What is Slack?

Mcafee cloud report

Slack is a cloud collaboration tool which lets users communicate and share documents.

The collaboration software is made by Slack Technologies, a Canadian ‘Unicorn’ company, with ‘unicorn’ referring to the fact that it was one of the fastest companies to receive a billion dollar valuation.

Slack eliminates the need for email or group SMS in the workplace, providing a platform where colleagues can communicate and share files, images, PDFs, documents and spreadsheets. Services such as Google Drive, Dropbox and Box can be integrated with Slack to allow more convenient collaboration.

Slack has steadily evolved into a community platform, allowing communities, groups or teams to come together via a specific URL or invitation sent by a team admin or owner. Communities are arranged by topics which a group of people or a team may be interested in discussing.
