What is Windows Defender?

Released initially as free antispyware, Windows Defender is a security software product developed by Microsoft. The software works to detect and remove malware and helps protect computer systems running Windows operating systems.

The software was based on GIANT AntiSpyware, which was originally made by GIANT Company Software. Microsoft acquired the company in 2004 and developed the software into what we now know as Windows Defender.
